Let’s look at Ethereum as an example. It is the second most popular cryptocoin, after Bitcoin. In 2014, when Ethereum launched its project, it sold its coin Ethers in Bitcoins or $0.40 when it was raising the sum of $18 million via an ICO.

Big fan of Bittrex but currently only taking corporate accounts, so you would already need an account. Other than that, worth looking at poloniex, kraken (but may not have enough coins for you) and coinexchange

ICO stands for Initial Coin Offerings — an alternative crowdfunding conducted out of the traditional financing system. Also known as initial token offerings, ICOs have already helped a number of evolving businesses and projects based on the blockchain technology. For the start-ups involved in the crypto space, it is a way of raising capital without having to deal with all the legal paperwork needed at the time of financing a fresh concept or idea.

I think the simplest place to buy, sell, and store coins is Coinbase (and our tutorial below will help you get set up with that), but you can only buy, sell, and store Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash on Coinbase. If you are serious about trading cryptocurrency, you’ll need another exchange like Coinbase’s GDAX, Bittrex, Binance, or Kraken (and you’ll likely want to find a wallet to store your coins in). See a top 5 list of cryptocurrency exchanges and the Best Bitcoin Exchanges ranked (those above are my picks).

Be more cautious about investing your 401k into Barry Silbert’s Bitcoin Investment Trust $GBTC. The (European) XBT Provider ETN is an open-ended fund which means it maintains a premium to the NAV close to 0% at all times. The Bitcoin Investment Trust is an inferior investment vehicle because it is a closed-end fund (it does not increase its holdings of the underlying asset when demand for the product increases) which means it is subject to wild swings in its premium, which has been as high as 150%. So you could make the mistake of buying when the premium is high and suffer swingeing losses even when the Bitcoin price is stable.

The exchanges where people trade digital currencies have also come under scrutiny from South Korean authorities. Bithumb, one of the biggest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world, said it was visited by tax officials this week.

When you print lots of money, inflation goes up which makes the currency value going down. Since there is a limited amount of Bitcoins and this holds true for the majority of the other cryptocurrencies, the supply side can’t increase which makes Bitcoin less prone to being affected by inflation.

Bitcoin has made many millionaires and you could be the next if you take the bull by the horns and invest in the digital coin. But don’t take my word for it; you need to do your own investigations and confirm what I am saying.

Naturally, this makes crypto very interesting for trading – which, incidentally keeps it growing. Digital currencies can also be an appealing choice for beginners. That said, before you dive in head-first, it’s a good idea to make sure you know a few important points about cryptocurrency trading.

At first I thought it would be harder because in my head I’d be taking 10 BTC positions and hoping there would be enough liquidity on the exchange to fill my orders. The solution is to only take large positions trading high volume coins, and to take several smaller positions on medium/low volume coins.

Ignore Biased Sources. These are where pump and dump schemes and other unscrupulous behavior happen in real time. Many people who post on websites that cater to crypto traders are fishing for suckers, posting misinformation and rumors and hoping investors will fall for it. Don’t play into their hands; seek advice through trusted and unbiased sources, and make your investing decisions accordingly.

Surprisingly, the SEC has some good guidance here. Even though they let Bernie Madoff get away with a massive pyramid scheme for a decade, despite someone telling them about it every year, they’re occasionally good for something! While, I’m not a big fan of the nanny-state accredited investor rules of the SEC that let’s only rich people invest as they see fit, nor of the “pattern day trader” rule that requires to you to have $25,000 minimum in order to day trade the traditional markets (which, by the way, does not apply to crypto markets…yet), there is some merit to the rules. Those numbers are arbitrary bullshit but I do agree with the sentiment that led to the creation of those laws.

I got fired 3 week ago and got into depression, one of my best friends is a crypto trader. Instead of feeling shitty he want to teach me everything about crypto and he said that it might help me to understand the normal 9-6 job life is not the only way. here are the tips and resources he gave me:

The nation’s largest cryptocurrency exchanges such as Coinone and Bithumb were raided by police and tax agencies this week for alleged tax evasion. The raids follow moves by the finance ministry to identify ways to tax the market that has become as big as the nation’s small-cap Kosdaq index in terms of daily trading volume.

What would be a good portfolio for a newbie today, I just keep losing with these popular Altcoins? Are you seeing just as much significant growth today (like doubling) as before with your portfolio? need a fresh portfolio today that has just as much potential as the day when you had bought into your Altcoins. Can you also give an idea of the percentages of the spreads you mentioned in your wallet? Also, with the influx of coins/icos, do you think alot of coins will lose value and it will be harder to find the gem amongst the rocks?

Bitstamp are big in Europe and, since 2011, have moved from Slovenia, and the United Kingdom in search of sound regulatory environments. Good volumes are available for larger trades. Well received by people using SEPA and credit cards. Both euro and US dollar deposits are accepted. I like Bitstamp because they really focus on being a pure bitcoin-only exchange (update: since 2017 Bitstamp have started adding popular cryptocoins). Please read my Bitstamp critique for analysis of factors such as security, fees, and the history.

Don’t invest blindy. There are people in this world who would sell a blind person a pair of glasses if they could make money. Those same people play in the cryptocurrency markets and use every opportunity to exploit less-informed investors. They’ll tell you what to buy or claim certain coins will moon, just to increase the prices so they can exit. Due to the highly speculative nature of the cryptocurrency markets today, a good investor will always do his or her own research in order to take full responsibility for the potential investment outcome. Information coming from even the best investor is, at best, great information, but never a promise, so you can still get burned.
